Superpedestrian Recalls Electric Bicycle Conversion Wheels

July 11, 2017 — A safety recall has been issued for about 230 electric bicycle conversion wheels because the rear axle can fail.

The recall involves the Copenhagen Wheel electric bicycle conversion wheels manufactured by Superpedestrian Inc., of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

No incidents or injuries have been reported, but the manufacturer warns that the rear axle can fail, posing fall and crash hazards to riders.

The serial numbers are located on the wheel’s user interface panel above the axle. Bike wheels with the following serial numbers were recalled:

• 01031708600020000000 through 01031710400250000000 for multi-speed wheels
• 02031708600020000000 through 02031710400250000000 for single speed wheels

The recalled wheels were manufactured in the U.S. and sold exclusively at superpedestrian.com from March 2017 through April 2017 for about $1,500.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled electric bicycle conversion wheels and contact Superpedestrian for a free replacement wheel.
