Sunbeam Recalls Holmes Ceramic Heaters for Fire Hazard

May 29, 2014 — Sunbeam Products is recalling about 151,600 Holmes Ceramic Heaters because they can overheat, smoke, and potentially catch on fire.

The recall affects Holmes oscillating ceramic heaters that were sold in black, purple, red, blue, and white. The heaters are rectangular, about 12 inches tall, 8-1/2-inches wide, and 5-1/2-inches deep. They are marked with model number HCH1823M printed on a label on the bottom of the product.

According to the manufacturer, the heaters pose a fire hazard:

“The firm has received 132 reports of units that unexpectedly stopped working and/or overheating, resulting in one report of smoke inhalation and ten reports of property damage involving burned flooring.”

The heaters were sold nationwide from August 2013 to March 2014 for about $30 at Fred Meyer, Target, Walmart, and other retailers. Consumers who own one of the recalled heaters should stop using it immediately, unplug it, and contact Sunbeam Products for instructions on how to receive a full refund. You will need to order a return kit and send the company the cord (including plug).
