July 25, 2024 — The California-based Stutz Packing Company has recalled shelled walnuts that were sold in Texas and Arizona.
The walnuts may be contaminated with Listeria bacteria, according to Stutz Packing.
The recall involves 1-pound bags of Shelled Walnuts that may have been distributed to consumer grocery stores, food banks, school lunch programs, shelters, and prison food systems.
The recall involves 1-pound bags of Shelled Walnuts, UPC Code 7 15001 00908 1 and Lot Code 241711 or 241721. It is a clear plastic package with a red-outlined white box printed in the center of the bag.
There were no reports of food poisoning at the time of the recall, but infections with Listeria monocytogenes can be life-threatening. According to the recall:
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
Customers are urged to throw out the walnuts or return the products to the place where they were obtained.
