October 11, 2022 — A married couple who were both burned while using a SilverOnyx Pressure Cooker have filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer.
The lawsuit was filed by Dana and Thomas H., a couple who were using a SilverOnyx Pressure Cooker (Model Number SO501-PC6L) to make shrimp gumbo in October 2020.
According to the complaint, Dana filled the pot half-way with ingredients, locked the lid onto the pot, set the timer for 25 minutes, and left the kitchen.
When the cook cycle was complete, Thomas manually released the pressure from the valve and waited until it appeared to be done releasing pressure.
But as soon as he opened the lid, “the pressure cooker immediately exploded open and spewed its contents,” the lawsuit states, causing serious burn injuries to both of them.
Dana alleges that she suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” to her abdomen and left arm, while Thomas was burned on his right arm and abdomen.
In the lawsuit, they blame SilverOnyx LLC for misleading consumers about the safety features of the pressure cooker — specifically a locking lid that was advertised to help keep consumers safe.
The lawsuit was filed on September 27, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania — Case Number 2:22-cv-03834.
