August 21, 2025 — A woman who was severely burned by a Walmart pressure cooker that suddenly exploded when the lid detached during use.
The plaintiff, Chelsa M., is a woman from Louisiana who was burned by a Farberware 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker that she called “defective” and “unreasonably dangerous.”
The pressure cooker was purchased from a Walmart Supercenter in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Her lawsuit explains that she was burned on September 7, 2024. While using the pressure cooker to cook food, the “pressure cooker’s lid suddenly and unexpectedly” exploded off the pot and burned her.
She suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” as a result of the scalding-hot contents being ejected out of the pot when the build-up heat, pressure, and steam were suddenly released.
Her lawsuit blames this incident on the failure of the pressure cooker’s so-called “safety mechanisms,” which were advertised to lock the lid until it was depressurized and safe to open.
Her lawsuit also accuses the manufacturer of failing to redesign the pressure cookers, announce a recall, or warn consumers of the risk.
The Walmart Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on August 8, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana — Case 2:25-cv-01143.
