August 27, 2024 — An oil rig worker in Utah is recovering after suffering 3rd-degree burns covering 80% of his body in a flash fire explosion in Duchesne County.
The explosion was reported on Wednesday, August 14, at an oil rig located near Mynton, Utah, owned by Uinta Wax Operating.
There were around 13 workers at the oil drilling pad for routine maintenance, according to the company. The victim was an oil hauler who was caught in a flash fire and critically injured.
He was taken to a local hospital before being flown by helicopter to Salt Lake City for treatment at the University of Utah Burn Center.
Jason Pearce, President of Uinta Wax Operating, said in a statement:
“We are truly sorry this incident occurred and that someone who is part of our oilfield team was critically injured. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the person injured and their family. We are still gathering information and investigating to understand the cause of the incident. Our team at the site did respond quickly to the incident, attended to the person injured, and stabilized the area.”
