April 8, 2019 — Texas oil company Patterson-UTI has paid a confidential settlement to the wife of a worker who died in an oil rig explosion last year.
The Associated Press reports that Patterson-UTI was dismissed from the wrongful death lawsuit after paying a settlement to the wife of Parker Waldridge, a man from Crescent who died in the explosion.
The lawsuit was filed by Dianna Waldridge, who accused the oil companies of negligence in the explosion on January 22, 2018, that killed 5 workers. The defendants included Patterson-UTI and Oklahoma City-based Red Mountain Energy.
Waldridge’s attorney did not disclose terms of the settlement, and said the wrongful death lawsuit continues against Red Mountain Energy.
Other victims of the explosion included Matt Smith of McAlester, Texas; Roger Cunningham of Seminole, Texas; Josh Ray of Fort Worth, Texas; and Cody Risk of Wellington, Colorado.
