NuvaRing birth control has been associated with many severe, life-threatening side effects. More than 1,000 lawsuits have been filed by women who have suffered from NuvaRing side effects, including blood clots, heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism, or even death. The litigation is currently underway, and you may have a limited amount of time to seek justice for your injury.
What is NuvaRing?
NuvaRing is a flexible contraceptive ring that is used to prevent pregnancy. It is placed inside the vagina once per month, kept in place for three weeks at a time, and then removed to allow menstruation. NuvaRing prevents pregnancy by slowly releasing hormones (ethinyl estradiol and etonogestrel) in a woman’s vagina. NuvaRing was created by the drug company Merck & Co. It was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2001.

Risks of Using NuvaRing
NuvaRing contains a hormonal ingredient called etonogestrel, which studies have linked to about 8 cases of blood clots for every 10,000 women who use NuvaRing in one year. This risk is double the risk for women who use oral birth control pills containing levonorgestrel.
Furthermore, according to this study, published by the New England Journal of Medicine in June 2012, vaginal rings are associated with a 2.5-fold increased risk of strokes due to blood clots.
NuvaRing Side Effect Lawsuits
Merck & Co., the manufacturer of NuvaRing, is facing more than 1,000 NuvaRing side effect lawsuits from women who have suffered from complications of blood clots, including heart attacks, strokes, pulmonary embolisms, and more. These lawsuits allege that Merck did not adequately warn women that NuvaRing is associated with a higher risk of blood clots than many other contraceptives.
NuvaRing lawsuits have been centralized in a federal Multi-District Litigation (MDL) as well as a state court action in New Jersey. The litigation is currently underway. If you were injured by a NuvaRing side effect, you may still have time to seek justice and compensation for your injury by filing a lawsuit.
