April 25, 2025 — A mother from Florida has filed a pressure cooker lawsuit against Amazon after her 2-year-old child was burned.
The lawsuit was filed by Nina P., the mother of a 2-year-old girl identified only as “V.P.” in the lawsuit. She claims that her daughter was burned as a result of defective safety features on an Instant Pot.
The case specifically involves the Instant Pot Smart-60 model, which is a programmable electric pressure cooker and multi-cooker.
According to her lawsuit, the girl was burned in May 2023 when someone opened the lid and the scalding-hot contents of the pot were ejected out. The girl suffered “serious and substantial bodily injuries.”
The plaintiff blames Amazon for failing to recall the Instant Pot Smart-60, failing to warn consumers about the safety risks, and putting profits over safety by continuing to sell a pressure cooker that is “unreasonably dangerous” due to defective safety features.
The lawsuit was filed on April 8, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida (Orlando Division) — Case Number 6:25-cv-00618.
