October 29, 2019 — Michigan apples were recalled in Texas and 7 other states after a product tested positive for Listeria contamination.
Michigan-based North Bay Produce Inc. issued a recall for a variety of apples that were grown in Michigan and delivered to retailers between between October 16, 2019 and October 21, 2019.
The recall involves approximately approximately 2,297 cases and 2 bulk bins of apples that were delivered to Texas, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.
The recalled apple varieties include McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Fuji, Jonamac, and Red Delicious.
The recalled apples were sold in plastic bags under brand-names such as Great Lakes®, North Bay Produce®, or Pure Michigan®.
The apples were also sold without brand-names, individually from retail display trays, in clear plastic tote bags, or white paper bags.
Healthy people are rarely infected with Listeria monocytogenes, but infections can be very serious for pregnant women and people with impaired immune systems. The bacteria can survive freezing and refrigeration. The early symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea, or diarrhea.
