February 20, 2019 — The Minnesota Department of Health has determined that 4 people were infected with Legionella bacteria after visiting the Crookston Inn and Convention Center.
The source of the outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease is still unknown, but it may be linked to the pool and spa.
Investigators determined that 4 people developed Legionnaires’ disease after visiting the hotel between January 22 and 27, 2019, although none of the people stayed at the hotel overnight.
The hotel has temporarily closed the pool and spa area to guests while they investigate the source of the outbreak.
In the meantime, management is notifying guests who stayed at the hotel between January 14 and February 13, 2019 that they may have been exposed to Legionella bacteria.
Legionnaires’ disease is an infection with Legionella bacteria that occurs when people breathe the bacteria into their lungs on tiny droplets of water in air. Outbreaks are typically traced to the mist from hot tubs, spas, showers, fountains, or air conditioning systems.
