April 18, 2023 — Instant Brands Inc. has been sued by a man from Arkansas who was burned by an Instant Pot.
According to the lawsuit, the incident occurred in March 2020 and involved an Instant Pot IP-LUX 60, which is a 6-in-1 multi-cooker.
The plaintiff, Devin B., said he was using the pressure cooking feature when he attempted to open the lid. He claims he was able to easily twist open the lid while there was still pressure trapped within the unit.
Unfortunately, opening the lid when the Instant Pot was still pressurized caused the “scalding hot contents to be projected from the unit” and onto his body, according to the lawsuit.
He is seeking compensation for “serious and substantial bodily injuries and damages,” including medical expenses and physical pain.
Furthermore, he accuses Instant Brands of failing to warn consumers about the risk of burn injuries, failing to recall the Instant Pot, or redesign the product to make the lid lock until it was safe to open.
The lawsuit was filed against Instant Brands on March 24, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas (Central Division) — 4:23-cv-00286-BRW.
