Instant Pot DUO Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Filed in New Jersey

March 12, 2024 — A man who was burned when he opened the lid on his Instant Pot has filed a pressure cooker lawsuit against the manufacturer.

The plaintiff, Darryl D., is a man from Kentucky who claims that he was severely burned by a defective Instant Pot DUO 6-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker (model DUO 60 V3).

In March 2023, he claims that he was using his Instant Pot to cook food. When he opened the lid, residual pressure inside the pot allowed “its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker” and onto his body, resulting in severe scalds and burn injuries.

The Instant Pot DUO was manufactured by Midea America Co., a Florida-based company. He accuses the manufacturer of misleading consumers about the “safety features” on the Instant Pot DUO.

Specifically, he alleges that the Instant Pot DUO was advertised to have a lid that would lock until the pressure cooker was safe to open.

Instead, he claims that the Instant Pot DUO is “unreasonably dangerous” because unsuspecting consumers can easily twist open the lid when the unit is still pressurized, resulting in burn injuries.

His Instant Pot Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on February 20, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey — Case Number 2:24-cv-00954.
