April 29, 2015 — Hy-Vee, Inc. has issued a recall for store-brand Summer Fresh Pasta Salad because it may be contaminated with Listeria.
No reports of food poisoning have been linked to the recall.
The pasta salad is sold in the grocery store’s cold-cases and salad bars. The recall was issued after Hy-Vee was notified that the frozen vegetables used to make the salad had been recalled by Inventure Foods.
The Summer Fresh Pasta Salad is a ready-to-eat deli product that would be packaged in 16oz (1-lb) or 32-oz (2-lb) clear plastic containers when ordered at the country by a customer. A label with the product name, weight, and price would be affixed to the container.
The recalled products were sold at a limited number of stores in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota from April 9 through April 27, 2015.
Healthy adults who are infected with Listeria may suffer only short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, the infection can become life-threatening:
“Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. … Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
