May 13, 2020 — After 5 months of pressure from government safety officials, Hodedah recalled HI4DR 4-Drawer Chests due to a tip-over hazard.
The first Safety Warning about the furniture was issued in January 2020 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The agency said it would continue to pressure Hodedah to issue a voluntary recall.
No injuries or deaths were reported, but the CPSC warned that the recalled Hodedah chest is dangerously unstable if it is not anchored to a wall.
Without anything in the drawers, the furniture weighs about 84 pounds. If a child pulls out a drawer and climbs up, it can easily tip over and crush the child.
The recall involves about 26,500 Hodedah HI4DR 4-drawer chests that were sold from July 2017 through April 2020 for between $90 and $200.
They were sold online at www.wayfair.com, www.HomeDepot.com, www.Walmart.com, www.Amazon.com, www.Unbeatablesale.com, and www.Homesquare.com, www.Houzz.com, www.Goedeckers.com, www.Cymax.com, www.123stores.com,, www.Hayneedle.com, and www.Overstock.com .
