Hearth & Home Gas Fireplace Recalled for Gas Leak Fire HazardSeptember 23, 2014 — Hearth & Home Technologies is recalling about 20,000 gas fireplaces, stoves, inserts and log sets because the gas valves in the unit can leak, posing a fire hazard.

No incidents of product failure related to these valves have been reported and the recall is proactive.

The recall involves indoor and outdoor fireplaces that were sold under several brands, including Hearth & Home, Heat-N-Glo, Heatilator, Outdoor Lifestyles, and Quadra Fire. They were sold in fireplace stores from May to July 2014 for $1,200-$8,000.

Dealers should be contacting people who received a fireplace with a defective valve. About 20,000 units need to be inspected, but only about 4,800 will require a valve replacement. The inspection and service will be provided at no charge.

Recommendation

“Consumers should immediately stop using the gas fireplaces, stoves, inserts and log sets, turn off the gas to the units and contact the fireplace store where the unit was purchased to arrange for a free inspection and, if necessary, valve replacement.  The firm’s dealers are contacting known purchasers.”

Not the First Gas Fireplace Recall

In April, about 15,700 gas fireplaces were recalled after the manufacturer received 9 reports of fires and explosions due to a gas leak. The recall affected 22 models of fireplaces, including products sold under the Kozy Heat, Stellar Hearth Products, and Ambiance brands. Click here to read more.
