You Could Get $500 For Each “Free Cruise” Robocall

January 20, 2017 — Consumers who received a phone call offering a free cruise in exchange for completing a political survey may be eligible for up to $500 per call if they sign up by February 1.

The payouts are being offered as part of a $76 million class action lawsuit settlement accusing Caribbean Cruise Line of making illegal robocalls between August 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012.

You may also be eligible if you have one of these phone numbers in your telephone records, caller ID, recordings, or screenshots proving you were called.

You must submit a claim online at www.FreeCruiseCallClassAction.net no later than February 1, 2017 to receive a payment.

The lawsuit claims the cruise line violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by making automated calls. Lawyers called the survey a “scam” and a “marketing tool with no legitimate political basis.”

The call would start with the company claiming to be part of Political Surveys of America. If the individual answered the survey questions, he or she was transferred to a Caribbean Cruise Line representatives.

Individuals were then booked on a 2-day trip for another cruise company — Celebration Cruise Line — and directed to timeshare presentations for resort accommodations owned by Florida-based Berkley Group.

The lawsuit was filed in 2012 by Stephen Parkes, a man from Chicago who received 9 robocalls from Political Opinions of America despite repeatedly trying to remove himself from the phone call list.
