Garbage Disposal RecallApril 12, 2017 — Nearly 150,000 garbage disposals were recalled after 22 reports of them shooting out pieces of metal and in some cases hitting people standing nearby.

No injuries were reported, but three people were hit by broken pieces of metal that came loose and were forcefully ejected out of the disposal.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall and warned:

“A metal component inside the disposal can break off and come out of the disposal during use, posing an impact hazard.”

The recall includes garbage disposals that were sold under a variety of brand-names: Barracuda, Franke, Frigidaire, Gemline, Kenmore, Kitcheneater, Luxart, Moen, Stream33, Waste King, and unbranded garbage disposals.

The manufacturer is asking consumers to stop using the garbage disposals and contact the company for a free replacement. The company will arrange for it to be installed at no cost to consumers.
