June 29, 2023 — Kroger stores in Texas have recalled several types of bagged frozen fruit with mango chunks that may be contaminated with Listeria.
No illnesses were reported, but infections with Listeria may cause severe, life-threatening food poisoning. Pregnant women may also suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infection of the newborn baby.
The frozen fruit was recalled by Oregon-based Townsend Farms Inc. because the mango chunks may be contaminated with Listeria.
The mango chunks were grown in Mexico and imported to the U.S. by SunOpta (Sunrise Growers), according to the recall notice.
The recall involves the following bagged fruit items:
- Private Selection® Tropical Mango Chunks (48-oz.)
- Private Selection® Strawberry Mango & Pineapple Blend (16-oz.)
- Private Selection® Classic Fruit Medley (48-oz.)
- Private Selection® Blueberries Strawberries & Mangoes (48-oz.)
The products were sold from November 6, 2022 to March 16, 2023 at Kroger stores in Texas and 15 other states. Kroger stores include Baker’s, Dillons, Food 4 Less, FoodsCo, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay Less, Pick n’ Save, Ralphs, Ruler, and Smith’s.
Consumers are being urged to be vigilant for symptoms of a Listeria infection, which could take up to 70 days to appear. Check your freezer for the recalled products and if you find any, throw them out or return them to the store for a full refund.
