February 8, 2019 — Fiat Chrysler announced 2 recalls covering over 882,000 Ram pickup trucks worldwide due to problems with steering and brakes.
The first recall involves 660,000 Ram trucks that may have a loose nut that could cause a loss of steering control. The recall covers the 2013-2017 Ram 3500 pickup trucks and 2014-2017 Ram 2500 pickup trucks and 3500 chassis cabs.
At least 1 person was injured and 8 crashes may be linked to the problem with loss of steering control, according to Fiat Chrysler.
Fiat Chrysler is asking owners of the recalled trucks to bring them into a dealer for a free inspection. If the steering linkage nut is tightened properly, mechanics will weld it to a sleeve to keep it in place. If the nut is loose, they will replace the steering assembly.
The second recall announced by Fiat Chrysler involves roughly 220,000 of the model-year 2019 Ram 1500 pickup trucks, but only those equipped with adjustable brakes. Investigators determined that certain adjustments can cause the brake pedals to detach.
