FDA Warns Mayhem Bodybuilding Supplement Contains Steroids

November 14, 2014 — The FDA is warning consumers not to buy or use Mayhem, a dietary supplement, because it contains hidden ingredients — a corticosteroid and an antihistamine.

If you have been using Mayhem, contact a doctor immediately. Abruptly discontinuing this product could cause withdrawal symptoms, such as muscle weakness, stiffness, fatigue, decreased appetite, weight-loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and more.

Mayhem is manufactured by Chaotic-Labz and sold on a variety of websites for about $40. It is marketed as a bodybuilding supplement that can increase muscle and strength, improve focus, and “electrify energy levels for epic gym sessions.”

Furthermore, the label does not list hidden pharmaceutical ingredients that could have serious side effects:

“Corticosteroid use can impair a person’s ability to fight infections, cause high blood sugar levels, muscle injuries and psychiatric problems. … Antihistamines may cause drowsiness and affect mental alertness.”

People who use corticosteroids for a long period of time, or at high doses, can suffer withdrawal symptoms when they abruptly discontinue the medication. If you have been using Mayhem, immediately contact a doctor to safely discontinue use of this product.

Corticosteroids also mimic the effects of hormones produced in the adrenal gland. Over time, the normal function of the adrenal gland may be suppressed. Only a healthcare professional can confirm adrenal suppression.

Corticosteroids and antihistamines can also interact with other medications a person is taking, which may cause serious side effects. Fortunately, the FDA has not received any adverse event reports associated with Mayhem.
