Texas Mojo Nights Lawyer

September 21, 2012 — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the voluntary recall of Mojo Nights and Mojo For Her, two dietary supplements that are illegally marketed because they contain prescription drugs. It is the latest supplement to fall in the FDA’s ongoing campaign against dietary supplements that contain unlisted pharmaceutical ingredients. Mojo Nights and Mojo For Her are marketed as supplements to enhance sexual performance. Unfortunately, the products actually contain unlisted tadalafil (Cialis) and sildenafil (Viagra), two drugs that are FDA-approved to treat erectile dysfunction.

Because sildenafil and tadalafil are not dietary supplements, Mojo Nights is not considered a dietary supplement. The FDA also warned that other ingredients in Mojo Nights were not listed on the label.

The FDA also cited issues with the marketing of Mojo Nights, specifically claims that it could “Jump start your sex drive,” “Give you powrful (sic) erections,” “stop pre-mature ejaculations,” and “MojoNights increases the strength and power of your erection.”

Because these marketing claims clearly show that Mojo Nights is intended to alter the structure of the body, the product is classified as a drug and must be approved by the FDA before it can be sold in the U.S.

The FDA is also concerned about potential health consequences of Mojo Nights. The product lacks warnings about the risk of side effects. According to the FDA,

“Its labeling makes false and misleading statements regarding safety and fails to reveal material facts with respect to consequences that may result from the use of this product. [The ingredients] contained in your “Mojo Nights,” may pose serious health risks to consumers, which are only compounded by the fact that these ingredients are not declared on the product’s label.”

The active ingredient in Mojo Nights may interact with other medications a user may be taking, especially those containing nitrates. This drug interaction could cause a user to suffer dangerously low blood pressure, which could be life-threatening in some cases. Consumers who take medications for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take a drug containing nitrates. People with these disease also often suffer from erectile dysfunction, and may be attracted to a supplement for sexual enhancement.
