September 27, 2019 — Euphoria Fancy Food Inc., of Brooklyn, New York, has issued a voluntary recall for Capitan K slightly-salted salmon pieces due to a risk of Listeria bacterial contamination.
The recall involves 7.05-ounce vacuum-packages of “CAPITAN K” slightly-salted salmon pieces. The product was distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.
The packages are marked with Container Code 070519, a Best-By date of 01/30/20, and UPC 607059000362.
No reports of illnesses have been confirmed, according to the manufacturer.
The New York State Department of Agriculture and Market Food Inspector reported that the contamination was discovered after a sample tested tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
The symptoms of a Listeria infection can take up to 70 days to appear. In healthy adults, the symptoms may include a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea.
Pregnant women who are infected with Listeria may show few symptoms, but suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or life-threatening infection of the newborn baby.
