Death Wish Coffee Recall

On September 17, 2017, Death Wish Coffee Co., a New York-based producer of the “world’s strongest coffee,” announced a recall for all 11-ounce Death Wish Nitro Cold Brew Canned Coffee due to a possible risk of botulism.

What is the problem?

No illnesses have been reported, but botulism is a life-threatening disease that can cause breathing problems, paralysis, and death.

Death Wish Coffee Co. announced the recall after an outside authority determined that the current manufacturing process could lead to the growth and production of the deadly toxin, botulin, in low-acid foods that are commercialized in reduced-oxygen packaging, such as nitro canned coffee.

The company has halted production of Death Wish Nitro Cold Brew until they can implement another step in the manufacturing process.

The founder and owner of Death Wish, Mike Brown, said they will make sure that everyone who bought the recalled coffee online will receive a full refund within 60 days. He issued the following statement:

“Our customers’ safety is of paramount importance and Death Wish Coffee is taking this significant, proactive step to ensure that the highest quality, safest, and of course, strongest Coffee products we produce are of industry-exceeding standards.”
