June 14, 2017 — Cycling Sports Group Inc. recalled certain GT mountain bikes from the 2017 model-year because the handlebars may crack, posing a fall hazard to the rider.
The recall was issued on June 8 for about 1,000 mountain bikes in the U.S. and 240 in Canada.
No incidents were reported, but a rider could lose control of the bicycle and fall if the handlebars break off. The problem was discovered during ongoing product testing, according to the GT Team:
“The handlebars may develop small fatigue cracks over time, which if not identified, may continue to grow larger and eventually lead to a fracture of the handlebars.”
The following models are included in the recall:
- 2017 GT Karakoram Sport
- 2017 GT Karakoram Comp
- 2017 GT Aggressor Sport
- 2017 GT Aggressor Comp
- 2017 GT Aggressor Expert
The recalled mountain bikes were sold nationwide from June 2016 through August 2017 for between $440 and $800.
Consumers should immediately stop using the bikes and contact an authorized GT dealer or Cycling Sports Group to schedule a free repair of the handlebar and stem.
