December 11, 2024 — A woman who was burned by a Crock-Pot on Christmas Day has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturers.
The Crock-Pot lawsuit was filed by Jazmin P., a woman from Ohio who was burned on December 25, 2022 by an allegedly “defective” and “unreasonably dangerous” pressure cooker.
Her injuries involved the Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cooker (Model #CCPPC 600-V1), which is a multi-cooker and pressure cooker. It is manufactured by Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands.
According to her lawsuit, Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands knew (or should have known) about the safety problems with the Crock-Pot, but failed to adequately warn consumers about the burn hazards.
She claims that she was able to open the lid when the Crock-Pot was pressurized, which ejected scalding-hot food and liquid onto her body.
Two years before she was injured, Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands announced a recall for more than 900,000 Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cookers after at least 99 people reported burns ranging from 1st- to 3rd-degree burns.
Her lawsuit was filed on December 2, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (Cleveland Division) — Case Number 1:24-cv-02088.
