June 12, 2025 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman who was burned by a Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker when she was able to open the lid while it was still pressurized.
The incident occurred in June 2021 and involved a Crock-Pot Express Easy Release Pressure Cooker (Model Number CPPCV60-SS).
The plaintiff, Aaquila R., is a resident of Minnesota who suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” when she was able to open the lid with normal force while the pressure cooker was pressurized.
Opening the lid allowed the scalding-hot contents of the pressure cooker to eject out of the pot and onto her body, her lawsuit states.
The lawsuit was filed against Sunbeam Products and Newell Brand, the manufacturers of the Crock-Pot Express Pressure Cooker. She blames they sold a product that was “dangerously defective.”
She also quotes the User’s Manual, which includes multiple statements about safety.
For example, the manual claims the pressure cookers were designed with “safety sensors” in the lid, and that “once the pressure increases, the Lid cannot be opened.”
Instead, she claims that the safety features were defective because they failed prevent her from opening the lid when the unit was pressurized.
Her lawsuit was filed against Sunbeam Products Inc. and Newell Brands, Inc. on May 15, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota — Case Number 0:25-02119.
