Crock-Pot Express Multi-Cooker Lawsuit Filed by Burned Woman

October 16, 2023 — A woman who was burned by a Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer.

The lawsuit was filed by Salena R., a woman who bought the pressure cooker from a Walmart store in Colorado.

In November 2022, she claims that she was using it normally when it suddenly “malfunctioned, causing its scalding hot contents to erupt from the product.”

She suffered “serious burn injuries,” according to her lawsuit, which resulted in disfigurement and medical expenses.

The pressure cooker was a Sunbeam® Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker (Model SCCPPC600-V), which was recalled in November 2020.

The recall involved nearly 1 million pressure cookers, and occurred in response to more than 100 reports of the lid detaching during use, including 99 people who suffered 1st- to 3rd-degree burn injuries.

Her lawsuit blames the manufacturer, Sunbeam Products Inc., for putting consumers in harm’s way by selling pressure cookers with defective lids:

“When the lid opens or is removed under such circumstances, the pressure within the unit causes the scalding hot contents to erupt from the unit and into the surrounding area, including onto any persons nearby.”

Her lawsuit is demanding damages for her injuries, medical expenses, decreased enjoyment of life, mental anguish, and other losses.

The lawsuit was filed on September 8, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado — Case No. 1:23-cv-02298-REB.
