March 20, 2015 — Lumber Liquidators has been hit with two proposed class action lawsuits on behalf of Nevada residents who say they are being poisoned by toxic levels of formaldehyde in their laminate floors.

One plaintiff, Rosie Oakes, told 13 Action News that she, her husband, and her dog all experienced health problems after installing nearly 700 feet of flooring without a respirator mask, which she says she was never told to use.

Mrs. Oakes and her dog have constantly watery eyes and her husband has respiratory problems — all possible symptoms of formaldehyde poisoning, according to her attorney. She said:

“I don’t want to live there, breathing this, day after day. I want them to do something about it and I want them to do it today.”

8 News Now reports that another class action was filed in Nevada by a Las Vegas family who watched a 60 Minutes investigation on formaldehyde in Chinese-made laminate floors.

Noah Bennett and his wife, Rosanna, started installing laminate wood flooring from Lumber Liquidators as a do-it-yourself project, but had to stop after getting sick within days. Bennett told the local news:

“As a consumer you try and go out and purchase stuff for your home to make it beautiful, and you find out in the long run, that it could possibly be bad for you. … A couple of days later, Rosonna got sick. She had bronchitis and stuff and then a couple days later I got sick with the same kind of stuff, and it was really just sitting in the house.”
