In November 2016, a jury in the city of Chicago awarded $7.5 million in a benzene lawsuit involving a railroad worker with leukemia. In February 2017, an auto mechanic with cancer filed a benzene lawsuit in Chicago, Illinois in Cook County Circuit Court. The lawsuit was filed by Steven J. Williams, a man with Multiple Myeloma who worked in repair shops since 1982. He was exposed to benzene in diesel fuel, parts washer solvent, car paint, belt dressings, and other products he used at work — Case No. 2016-L001056.
