May 26, 2020 — Chesapeake Energy Corp. has been hit with wrongful death lawsuits from the families of 3 oilfield workers who died in a well blowout in Texas.
The lawsuits were filed on behalf of Brian Maldanado, Brad Hendrix and Wendell Beddingfield.
A fourth worker, Justin Cobb, was injured in the explosion but survived. He has joined the lawsuit against Chesapeake Energy Corp.
The oil well blowout occurred on January 29 at a drilling site near Caldwell, Texas, which is located in Burleson County.
All of the lawsuits accuse Chesapeake of failing to provide proper safety equipment to prevent a blowout, which is caused by pressure from building up in the well.
The lawsuits also claim that an on-site supervisor for Chesapeake Energy failed to properly oversee the job.
The oil well is owned by Chesapeake Energy. At the time of the explosion, a crew of 11 contractors for C.C. Forbes and Eagle Pressure Control were performing major maintenance operations.
