June 6, 2024 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman who claims that she was burned by a defective GoWISE Electric Pressure Cooker.
The plaintiff, Erika W., is a resident of Cleveland, Ohio, who claims that she suffered serious burn injuries on July 9, 2022 while using a GoWise Electric Pressure Cooker (Model Number CYSB130-160B and Item No. GW22637).
According to her lawsuit, she was able to remove the lid when there was still a dangerous amount of pressure, heat, and steam trapped within the unit:
“When the lid is removed under such circumstances, the pressure trapped within the unit causes the scalding hot contents to be projected from the unit.”
Her lawsuit blames the incident on the failure of the pressure cooker’s safety mechanisms, specifically the “lock pin.”
The Owner’s Manual for the GoWISE Electric Pressure Cooker states on page 11: “[T]he small pin on the side of the lid will go in and out, indicating a secure lock.”
She accuses GoWISE of failing to recall the pressure cooker or redesign it to fix the flawed safety mechanisms.
Her lawsuit was filed against GoWISE USA LLC on May 20, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (Cleveland Division) — Case Number 1:24-cv-00892.
