September 14, 2020 — Bonanza Drilling Inc. was fined $50,000 after a worker fell off a drilling rig and was seriously injured.
The fines were issued after an incident on February 17, 2018, when a worker fell from a walkway while cleaning a rig, according to Pipeline News.
Bonanza Drilling was fined $35,714.28 plus a surcharge of $14,285.72, for a total of exactly $50,000.
Bonanza pleaded guilty to one count of failing to ensure health, safety and welfare of workers on a job site, resulting in the injury of a worker.
Bonanza Drilling is a privately-owned Canadian company based in Brooks, Alberta. The accident occurred near Herschel, Saskatchewan, which is an active drilling area in the Viking oil play.
