March 7, 2022 — A recall has been issued for beef jerky products that were sold in Texas and 7 other states due to a risk of food poisoning infections with Listeria bacteria.
On March 4, Boyd Specialties LLC announced a recall for approximately 1,634 pounds of beef jerky products.
The products are labeled with “Best-By” dates of “21823” and establishment number “EST. 40269” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
They were shipped to stores in 8 states, including Texas, Alabama, California, Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
The recall involves more than a dozen brand-names, including Texas Family Jerky, Ranchview Jerky Co., Humboldt Jerky Co., Smokehouse Jerky Co., Rebel’s Gourmet, Gold Mine Jerky Company, 2 Broke Bartenders, Killer, The Country’s Best, Durbin Farms Market, and more.
No infections with Listeria were reported at the time of the recall, but the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) reported that a product tested positive for Listeria contamination.
Infections with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can cause gastrointestinal infections that spread to other parts of the body, causing meningitis, pregnancy complications, or death.
The symptoms may include a fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, and sometimes diarrhea or other intestinal symptoms.
