April 15, 2015 — Beech-N-Nut has issued a recall for about 1,920 pounds of a baby food product that may be contaminated with pieces of glass.
The voluntary recall includes 4-oz glass jars containing “Classics Stage 2 Sweet Potato & Chicken.”
The company received one report of a baby who had a mouth injury after eating the product, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). No additional reports of injury or illnesses have been linked to these products.
Products included in the recall are marked on the lid with the establishment number “P-68A” inside the USDA mark of inspection and product numbers “12395750815” through “12395750821”. They have an expiration date of December 2016 and they were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
The recall has been designated “Class I,” which means the USDA believes the health risk is high. According to the agency:
“This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
ABC News reports that a spokeswoman for Beech-Nut said that most of the recalled products are still on store shelves or in warehouses. However, they have been working to pull the product off the market since the night before the recall.
