CPSC Warns Americans to Throw Away Houswise Fire Pits

In July 2026, the CPSC issued a warning for at least 53,500 Houswise Tabletop Fire Pits, urging consumers to stop using them and dispose of them.

The agency warned that using the fire pits can result in uncontrolled pool fires and flame jetting from fuel containers, with a risk of serious or fatal burns.

Is There a Recall?

No. This is a warning rather than a recall because Furmia LLC has not agreed to recall the fire pits or give consumers any remedy, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). There is no refund or replacement available. The CPSC also asked people not to sell or give the fire pits away.

How Does a Tabletop Fire Pit Explode Into Flames?

Houswise fire pits are open rectangular, round, or square containers. The user pours liquid fuel like rubbing alcohol or bioethanol into the container and lights the pooled liquid right where it was poured, which can let flames spread across any pooled or spilled fuel and grow suddenly larger and hotter. These fuels burn at over 1,600°F, which is easily hot enough to cause 3rd-degree burns in under a second.

The most violent danger comes when someone tries to add more fuel into the fire pit. The CPSC explained it this way:

“A small flame in the fire pit can be hard to see and can ignite the vapor inside a fuel container as the fuel is poured, causing an explosion that propels flames and burning liquid onto the consumer or bystanders.”

Which Houswise Fire Pits Are Affected?

The CPSC warning covers Houswise Tabletop Fire Pits with the following features:

  • Model names — Vesper, Astra, Altair, and Quad
  • Base shapes — rectangular, round, or square
  • Colors — marble, black, light gray, and dark gray
  • Accessories — some units were sold with skewers and cheese boards

Where Were They Sold?

The fire pits were sold online at Houswise.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and other websites since March 2023.

The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the fire pits immediately and dispose of them. For updates, visit the official CPSC warning page.

How Many People Were Injured?

Nationally, the CPSC is aware of more than two dozen reports of flame jetting, fuel leaking outside of the fire pit, and unexpectedly high flames involving Houswise fire pits. Those reports include 7 injuries, some involving third-degree burns.

Official counts typically underrepresent the actual number of victims, since many people never report a burn injury to the CPSC. If a Houswise fire pit burned you or someone in your family, our lawyers may be able to help.

Has This Happened With Other Fire Pits?

Yes. In October 2024, roughly 89,500 Colsen-branded tabletop fire pits were recalled after 31 reports of flame jetting and escaping flames were linked to 19 burn injuries.

In 2025, the CPSC followed with a nationwide consumer alert on alcohol and other liquid-burning fire pits that violate voluntary safety standards, citing 2 deaths and dozens of serious burn injuries. The Houswise warning shows manufacturers kept selling this style of open-reservoir fire pit even after those alarms.

Legal Help for Burn Victims in Texas

A flame jetting explosion can spray burning fuel across a table in a fraction of a second, reaching the face, hands, and arms of everyone gathered around it. Third-degree burns often mean skin grafts, time in a burn unit, and permanent scarring.

Texans who were burned by a Houswise Tabletop Fire Pit may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages. A Texas product liability lawyer can help you understand your legal options.
