Amazon Recalls 2,900 Adjustable Dumbbells After Plate Dislodgement Reports
In May 2026, Amazon issued a voluntary recall of about 2,900 Amazon Basics 55 Lbs. Adjustable Dumbbells. According to the CPSC notice, Amazon received 8 reports of weight plates failing to engage completely during weight adjustment and dislodging during use. No injuries were reported at the time.
The recalled dumbbells were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from July 2025 through September 2025 and were imported by Amazon.com Services LLC.
What Is the Safety Hazard?
The CPSC describes the defect this way:
“The weight plates can fail to engage completely during weight adjustment and dislodge from the dumbbell handle when used posing an impact hazard.”
A 55-pound adjustable dumbbell relies on the weight plates locking securely to the handle. If a plate is not fully engaged and dislodges during a lift, it can fall on the user’s head, face, feet, or chest, or strike a bystander. Even a partial set of plates falling from overhead during a press can produce a serious impact injury.
Which Products Are Affected?
The recall covers the following:
- Amazon Basics 55 Lbs. Adjustable Dumbbells, color black
- Sold in pairs and as single units, including handles, weight plates, and a molded plastic tray
- Adjustable from 5 to 55 pounds using manual adjustment knobs while weights are nested in the base
- Manufacturing lot code C250306VJAW5, printed on the outer cardboard packaging box
- Manufactured in China
Where Were They Sold?
The dumbbells were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from July 2025 through September 2025 for between $170 and $320. Because the product was sold online nationwide, units shipped to Texas customers in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and across the state.
If you still have the product, the CPSC says to stop using it immediately. Owners can register at Amazon’s dedicated recall page for a prepaid return shipping label and a full refund.
How Many People Were Injured?
Amazon received 8 reports of weight plates dislodging during use. No injuries were reported when the recall was announced. If you were struck or hurt when a weight plate came off your Amazon Basics dumbbell during use, your experience may match the defect that prompted this recall. Our lawyers may be able to help.
Legal Help for Injured Dumbbell Users in Texas
Amazon is one of the largest retailers in Texas, and home fitness equipment sold through Amazon ships to households in every major Texas city.
Adjustable dumbbells are especially popular for home gyms because they replace an entire rack of weights with a single unit, which means a defective handle puts the user at risk on every lift.
When a 55-pound dumbbell sheds a plate during a press, curl, or overhead lift, the falling weight can produce broken bones, concussions, foot and ankle injuries, or facial trauma.
Every case is unique, but Texans who were injured by defective weightlifting equipment may be able to file a lawsuit and seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
