Vive Health Recalls 122,000 Bed Rails After 2 Deaths

On March 26, 2026, the CPSC announced a recall of approximately 122,000 Vive Health adult portable bed rails due to a serious entrapment and asphyxiation hazard. When attached to a bed, users can become trapped within the rail or between the rail and the side of the mattress, posing a risk of death.

Vive Health received 2 confirmed reports of entrapment deaths linked to one of the recalled models. Both deaths occurred in September 2024. One victim was a 97-year-old man at an assisted living facility in Texas. The other was a 93-year-old man at his home in Florida.

The recalled bed rails also violate the mandatory federal safety standard for adult portable bed rails and were sold without the required hazard warning labels.

Which Bed Rails Are Recalled?

The recall covers three models of Vive Health adult portable bed rails: the Vive Health Compact Bed Rail, the Bed Rail Collection V, and model LVA1024 purchased on or before August 21, 2023, as well as model LVA3031BLK.

The products were sold at medical supply stores nationwide and through Vive Health’s website, Amazon.com, and other online retailers from September 2019 through December 2025, priced between $45 and $90.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled bed rails immediately and contact Vive Health for a full refund.

How Do Bed Rail Entrapments Happen?

Adult portable bed rails are designed to help elderly and mobility-limited individuals get in and out of bed safely. They attach to the side of a standard bed frame. The danger arises when a gap forms between the rail and the mattress, or when the rail itself is large enough to trap a person’s body, neck, or head.

Once entrapped, an elderly or frail person may be unable to free themselves or call for help. This can lead to positional asphyxiation. Because these deaths can appear peaceful, they are sometimes not immediately recognized as entrapment-related, which means this type of fatality is likely underreported.

The two confirmed deaths in this recall both involved men in their 90s, consistent with the population most likely to use these products and most vulnerable to this specific hazard.

How Many Texans Were Affected?

One of the 2 confirmed deaths in this recall occurred at an assisted living facility in Texas. Because the recalled bed rails were sold nationwide through Amazon.com and medical supply retailers from 2019 through 2025, many Texas families may have purchased these products for elderly relatives at home or in care facilities.

The actual number of Texans affected by this hazard is likely higher than what has been officially confirmed, since many entrapment incidents may not have been connected to the product or reported to the CPSC.

A Long Pattern of Bed Rail Entrapment Deaths

The Vive Health recall is the latest in a recurring pattern of adult portable bed rail recalls involving entrapment deaths. In May 2024, Medline recalled about 1.5 million adult portable bed rails after 2 deaths were reported. In April 2024, Essential Medical Supply re-announced a recall of about 272,000 Endurance Bed Rails following 3 deaths.

Despite years of recalls in this product category, manufacturers have continued to sell bed rails that fail to meet mandatory federal safety standards. The Vive Health recall involves products sold from 2019 through 2025, meaning many consumers may still have these dangerous products in their homes or care facilities today.

Texas families who lost a loved one to bed rail entrapment may have legal options. This includes families of assisted living residents in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and across the state where recalled Vive Health bed rails may have been in use. It also includes families of seniors who used the product at home after purchasing it on Amazon or from a medical supply store.

Victims and their families may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and wrongful death damages. A Texas product liability lawyer can help you understand your options.
