DR Expands Recall for Leaf Vacuums Due to Injury Risk

In January 2026, DR Power expanded a recall for about 60,250 walk-behind and tow-behind leaf vacuums to include additional model numbers that could pose a safety hazard. No injuries were reported, but there were dozens of incidents involving debris being ejected from the unit.

What Happened?

There were 46 reports of “loose pieces being ejected from the units,” according to DR Power. This hazard occurs when pieces come loose inside the unit, or debris pieces the chute. According to the recall:

“Pieces from the recalled leaf vacuums can come loose inside the unit, or debris can pierce the chute, resulting in material ejecting and posing a laceration hazard to users and bystanders.”

Original Recall

DR Power published the original recall in May 2024 due to a similar safety hazard. The previous recall involved about 57,200 leaf blowers and vacuums.

When the recall was announced on May 2, 2024, DR said it had received 22 reports of loose pieces being ejected from the units.

How To Identify Recalled Products

The recall involves walk-behind and tow-behind leaf vacuums (as well as walk-behind leaf blowers from earlier recalls).

For a list of recalled product names and model numbers, visit the expanded recall announcement posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

These leaf vacuums were sold nationwide and online at drpower.com from September 2014 through June 2025 for about $1,300 to $4,000.

They have the name “DR” printed on the motor housing. You can find the model number on the walk-behind leaf vacuum on the front-right side behind the wheel. On the tow-behind leaf vacuum, the model number is on the impeller housing next to the engine.

Can I Get a Refund?

No. Instead of a refund, DR is urging customers to check the model number on their leaf vacuums. If your unit is affected by the recall, please stop using it until it can be repaired.

How Do I Get a Repair Kit?

You can register for a free repair kit at the website: https://www.drpower.com/LLV-FreeRepairKit. The repair kit will include installation instructions so you can install a protective chute sleeve that will protect against material piercing the existing chute.
