BLONGKY Electric Car Kettles Linked to Severe Burns

In November 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned consumers about a risk of severe burn injuries from defective BLONGKY Portable Electric Car Kettles that were sold on Amazon.com and Walmart.com.

What is the Problem?

There were 11 reports of incidents, including severe burn injuries, when a defective BLONGKY Car Kettle leaked or spilled extremely hot liquid. According to the safety warning:

“The car kettles can unexpectedly spew steam or hot water when opened by a consumer and can also burn consumers when the lid mechanism fails and the top unexpectedly opens.”

What Are Electric Car Kettles?

BLONGKY Portable Electric Car Kettles, also known as “electric coffee mugs,” or “travel kettles,” are products that are designed to plug into a car’s power system to heat up liquid, such as coffee or tea.

Burn Injuries & Car Accidents

The liquids inside an electric car kettle can reach boiling temperatures, such as 212°F (100°C). This is easily hot enough to cause severe burns if the liquid spills onto a consumer. If this accident occurs in a car, there is also a serious risk of car accidents when the injured driver loses control of the vehicle, swerves into another vehicle, or crashes.

How Many People Were Severely Burned?

No car accidents were reported, but there were 9 reports of people who suffered severe 2nd-degree burns when extremely hot liquids spilled out of a defective BLONGKY Portable Electric Car Kettle.

Can I Get a Refund?

No. BLONGKY has been “unresponsive to CPSC requests for a recall or information about this product,” according to the warning. BLONGKY is not offering any refunds or other remedies.

The CPSC is recommending that consumers immediately stop using BLONGKY Portable Electric Car Kettles. These products should be disposed of following local procedures for hazardous waste.
