HelloFresh Meal Kits with Spinach Recalled for Listeria

On October 6, 2025, the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a Public Health Alert for HelloFresh Meal Kits.

Health officials said the spinach ingredient tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause life-threatening food poisoning infections. The spinach was recalled by a supplier called FreshRealm. No illnesses were reported.

What Happened?

Health officials said there were “no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products,” but anyone who is worried about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

What is the Health Risk?

Infections with Listeria may not cause symptoms for up to 10 weeks, or symptoms may appear on the same day that contaminated food is eaten. According to the Public Health Alert:

“Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.”

The recalled spinach ingredient was used in the following HelloFresh Meal Kits:

• Hello Fresh Ready Made Meals Cheesy Pulled Pork Pepper Pasta: 10.1-oz. containers with establishment number “Est. 47718” and lot code 49107, or establishment number “Est. 2937” and lot code 48840.
• Hello Fresh Ready Made Meals Unstuffed Peppers With Ground Turkey: 10-oz. containers with establishment number “P-47718” and lot codes 50069, 50073, or 50698.

What is HelloFresh?

HelloFresh is a subscription meal-kit delivery service. Customers sign up and use an app to select which meal kits they want to order, and the meals arrive in a cardboard box. HelloFresh has also recently added a grocery delivery service to add on other fresh ingredients or products.

What Should I Do?

Health officials are warning customers to check their refrigerators and freezers for the recalled products, and throw them out or return them.
