UPDATE: Recall Expands to Frigidaire Mini Fridges Sold at Target
In January 2026, Curtis International announced an expanded recall for Frigidaire Mini Fridges to include another 330,000 units with EFMIS121. The problem is that an internal electrical component can short-circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, which poses fire and burn hazards.
The recalled mini fridges were sold in red at Target stores nationwide and Target.com from January 2020 through October 2023 for around $30. These units were linked to 6 reports of fires and property damage, according to the recall. No injuries were reported.
Original Frigidaire Mini Fridge Recall
On July 24, 2025, safety officials announced a recall for about 634,000 Frigidaire Mini Fridges due to fire and burn hazards, after more than $700,000 in property damage.
What is the Problem?
The manufacturer, Curtis International, warned consumers that the recalled Frigidaire Mini Fridges can catch on fire. The problem is that the “internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing,” according to the recall.
How Many Incidents Were Reported?
There were “at least 26 reports of the minifridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating and catching fire, according to the recall. These reports included 2 people who suffered smoke inhalation injuries, and over $700,000 in property damage.
Was My Portable Mini Fridge Recalled?
The recall involves specific Frigidaire “Retro” Mini Fridges with model numbers EFMIS121, EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149 and EFMIS175.
The recall only includes units manufactured from January 2020 to December 2023 that do not have a “-B” or “-C” in the model number. To check if your unit is part of the recall, visit the recall website at: https://www.recallrtr.com/minifridge.
What Should I Do?
