January 16, 2020 — Hodedah four-drawer dressers pose serious tip-over hazards that can injure or kill children, according to a warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The risk is similar to the problem posed by millions of IKEA dressers that were recalled after several children died.
The Hodedah dresser has not been recalled, but the CPSC said it is pressing the case for a recall due to the risk of severe injury or death.
Tests determined that the Hodedah HI4DR four-drawer dresser is unstable when it is not anchored to a wall. It weighs 75 pounds without anything in the drawers, which is easily enough to crush a child.
The dresser poses “serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in severe injuries or death,” according to the CPSC warning.
The agency advises anchoring the dresser to a wall or putting it in a place where children cannot get near it.
The dressers were sold online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Sears.com, and Homedepot.com for between $100 and $200.
