October 11, 2019 — Ridgewood Industries Inc. recalled 1 million four-drawer Belmont dressers sold at Kmart and Sears because they can tip over and cause serious injury or death to a child.
The recalled dressers were sold at Kmart and Sears stores nationwide and online between April 2013 and September 2019 for about $40.
No injuries were reported, but the dressers have a very similar design as IKEA four-drawer dressers that are linked to several tragic deaths.
According to the warning issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):
“The recalled dressers are unstable and can tip over if not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children.”
Additionally, according to the CPSC, recalled dressers over 30″ tall do not comply with the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard (ASTM F2057-14).
Ridgewood is offering consumers a free anchoring kit, including a wall anchor strap. Consumers may also request a one-time, free, in-home installation of the wall anchor strap.
For more information, contact Ridgewood toll-free at 888-222-7460 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, or visit www.ameriwood.com and click on “Support.”
