Texas Triaminic Theraflu Injury Lawyer

February 1, 2013 — The popular cough, cold, and fever syrups Theraflu and Triaminic are being recalled four four children opened the child-resistant safety caps, drank the medication, and poisoned themselves. According to the recall notice provided by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), at least 12 children have unscrewed the locked caps, four children ingested the product, and one child required medical attention.

The recall was initiated after a consumer filed a complaint in November 2012. No adverse events have been reported in association with the Theraflu syrup, but is being recalled because it has the same type of cap as the Triaminic.

The CPSC warned:

“These child-resistant caps can fail to function properly and enable the cap to be removed by a child with the tamper-evident seal in place, posing a risk of unintentional ingestion and poisoning. These products contain acetaminophen and diphenhydramine which are required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act to be sealed with child-resistant packaging.”

Health Canada has also announced a recall of the products, which are sold under the brand-name “Jack & Jill Cough Syrup,” “Neo Citran,” “Buckley’s Complete,” and “Triaminic.”

Approximately 24 different types of Theraflu Warming Relief and Triaminic Syrups are being recalled in the United States. The products were sold for about $5 at food, drug, and mass merchandise stores between May 2010 and December 2011.

The products were manufactured by the drug company Novartis at a facility in Lincoln, Nebraska before December 2011. Manufacturing was suspended in December 2011 and the facility has not reopened.

Customers who purchased the product can visit the Novartis website to download a refund form.
