Women who use the antidepressant Pristiq during pregnancy may be at greater risk of having a baby with a birth defect. Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against manufacturers of antidepressants for failing to warn about this risk. If you need information about joining a Pristiq class action or filing an individual lawsuit, contact our law firm today.

What is Pristiq?
Pristiq is an antidepressant medication in the serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) class that has been on the market since 2008. It is a Pregnancy Category C drug, which means it can still be prescribed to pregnant women despite evidence linking it to a potential risk of birth defects.
Pristiq Class Action Information
Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) is nearly identical to Effexor (venlafaxine), and it is possible that both drugs have similar risks to a developing fetus because they are metabolized into essentially the same drug.
This is concerning, because over 50 lawsuits involving Effexor birth defects have already been filed. Effexor lawsuits have been centralized in a multi-district litigation (MDL No. 2458) in federal court in Illinois — the same court where over 500 Zoloft birth defect lawsuits are pending.
These lawsuits are not part of class action. They are individual lawsuits that have been centralized in one federal court. Like a class action, the litigation is more streamlined and plaintiffs can share pre-trial discovery. However, unlike a class action, each case can have its own outcome.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Pristiq Class Action
The Clark Firm, LLP would like to speak with anyone who used Pristiq and had a baby with a birth defect. However, our attorneys are not currently filing a Pristiq class action lawsuit. Many lawsuits have been filed, but no class actions involving birth defects. Our lawyers are concerned that members of a class action could be forced to accept high attorneys’ fees and a “low-ball settlement.”
Instead of a class action, we are filing individual claims. We are reviewing claims involving:
- Heart defects
- Atrial septal defect (ASD)
- Ventricular septal defect (VSD)
- Patent foramen ovale (PFO)
- Coarctation of the aorta
- Hypoplastic lungs
- Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN)
- Cleft palate
- And more
