The antibiotic Levaquin has been linked to severe side effects like aortic aneurysms and permanent nerve damage. Lawsuits accuse drug-makers of downplaying the risk of severe side effects from Levaquin.

Levaquin and Aortic Aneurysms
The aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body, responsible for carrying oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the body. Aortic aneurysms occur when the wall of the aorta weakens and bulges or “balloons” outward. In severe cases, it bursts open and causes massive internal bleeding.
Fluoroquinolone antibiotics are known to damage connective tissue, which is why they have warnings about tendonitis. In October 2015, a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that current users of quinolones were twice as likely to develop aortic aneurysms. Past users were 50% more likely to develop aortic aneurysms.
Levaquin and Nerve Damage
Experts have known about the risk of nerve damage from all drugs in the fluoroquinolone class, including Levaquin, for over a decade. In 2013, the FDA warned that symptoms can appear within a couple days and they may be permanent. Symptoms in the arms and legs may include:
- sensitivity to light touch
- changes in sensation of temperature
- abnormal position sense, vibratory sensation
- decreased motor strength
- and more
Black Box Warning – Levaquin Tendon Injuries
Levaquin carries a Boxed Warning about the risk of tendinitis and tendon ruptures. These injuries affect the connective tissues between the bones and muscles. Symptoms may include pain, swelling, and inflammation.
What is the problem?
The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm in Texas. Although Levaquin has injured many people, we are not currently filing a Levaquin class action. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits and limiting our cases to people with the most serious side effects.
About Class Action Lawsuits
Class actions are useful when a lot of people have a similar legal claim — such as age discrimination by a corporation. Instead of everyone filing a lawsuit alone, members of a class action join together, consolidate their claims into one claim, and choose one member to represent everyone.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Levaquin Class Action
For individuals with severe injuries, class actions can have disadvantages. Members may be forced into “low-ball” settlements with higher attorneys’ fees. In fact, when pharmaceutical companies sell defective drugs, class actions are typically only used to seek reimbursement for everyone who purchased that drug — not everyone who was injured.
Our attorneys file individual lawsuits because we believe each person who was seriously injured by Levaquin deserves a legal representative who is committed to their case. We pursue settlements but we are willing to take each case to trial, if necessary.
If you decide to file an individual lawsuit, you won’t be alone. If many people file individual lawsuits, it is possible that the litigation will be centralized at the state or federal level in a mass-tort or Multi-District Litigation (MDL). This process provides many of the advantages of a class action, but each person’s case can have its own outcome.
You could receive compensation for:
- Physical and emotional pain and suffering
- Medical expenses
- Lost income or employment
- Permanent injury or disability
- Decreased quality of life
- And more
