Atrium C-QUR Hernia Mesh is coated in fish oil (omega-3 fatty acid). It is advertised as a barrier against side effects, but at least 15 lawsuits claim it causes infections, inflammation, and other injuries that require surgery.

Atrium C-QUR Mesh Lawsuits Centralized in MDL
In December 2016, federal judges centralized 21 lawsuits involving C-QUR Mesh against Atrium Medical Corp in the U.S. District Court for New Hampshire underJudge Landya B. McCafferty — In Re: Atrium Medical Corp. C-QUR Mesh Products Liability Litigation — Multi-District Litigation (MDL No. 2753).
The MDL was created with the support of Atrium and lawyers for people who were injured. This “mass-tort” is like a class action, but each case remains independent. Like a class action, the process also improves efficiency and allows coordination of “bellwether” trials and possible settlement negotiations.
What is Fish Oil Mesh?
Atrium C-QUR Mesh (pronounced “Secure”) is used to repair hernias and other reconstructive surgeries. The mesh is made from fibers of polypropylene (plastic) that are woven together and coated in fish oil (omega-3 fatty acid). Fish oil hernia mesh is advertised as an “anti-adhesion” barrier. Atrium claims it reduces the risk of adhesions, which is scar-tissue growing around the mesh and sticking organs together abnormally in the body.
What Causes Adhesions?
Persistent inflammation and low-level irritation can cause abdominal adhesions, a common complication of hernia mesh. Normally, internal organs have slippery surfaces that prevent them from sticking together as the body moves. When adhesions develop, tissues and organs stick together. They require corrective surgery to prevent intestinal obstructions and other side effects.
Fish Oil Mesh Rejection and Infections
There are several reports of patients who developed infections, allergic reactions, or inflammation from fish oil mesh. These foreign body reactions occur when the body rejects the mesh. In one report, a 61 year-old woman developed “dense adhesive disease around the mesh,” chronic pain, and a hard lump on her abdomen when her body rejected her C-QUR mesh implant.
What is the problem?
The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not filing a class action lawsuit for people who were injured by hernia mesh coated in fish oil. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits. We are accepting cases involving people who needed surgery due to complications, such as:
- Chronic pain
- Infections or abscesses
- Inflammation
- Foreign body reaction
- Body rejects mesh
- Adhesions (scar-tissue)
- Mesh erosion or migration in the body
- Organ damage
- Allergic reaction
- Surgery to remove mesh
- And more
About Class Actions
Class actions have advantages when a lot of people have a relatively minor legal claim — for example, seeking refunds for a defective product. If compensation is awarded, everyone who joins the class action shares the payout equally.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action
Many lawsuits have been filed by people who were injured by C-QUR Hernia Mesh, but not as part of a class action. For people with serious injuries, class actions have many disadvantages. Members may have to accept “low-ball” settlements or higher attorneys’ fees.
Our lawyers specialize in filing lawsuits for individuals who were injured by defective medical devices. We focus on maximizing compensation for our clients’ pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost income, permanent injuries, and more.
