Cashmere Bouquet had between 8% and 20% asbestos, according to a study in March 1976 by Dr. Arthur Rohl. He warned, “Asbestos fibers can cause mesothelioma, a chest and abdominal cancer, and can also result in the scarring of lung tissue and gastro‐intestinal difficulties.”
$13 Million Awarded in Cashmere Bouquet Mesothelioma Lawsuit
A woman from California named Judith Winkel was awarded $13 million by a jury in Los Angeles in April 2015. She used Cashmere Bouquet with Talc from 1961 until 1976, when it contained asbestos. Every time it created “a little cloud, like a dust cloud,” she said.
Cashmere Bouquet Linked to Mesothelioma Death: Study
In October 2014, researchers analyzed lung tissue from a woman who died of mesothelioma. They said asbestos in Cashmere Bouquet “accumulated in her lungs and likely caused or contributed to her mesothelioma.”
The asbestos fibers in her lungs were identified, traced back to the mine where they originated, and matched with Cashmere Bouquet. Researchers also showed how easy it was to breathe a puff of talc.
The study was published by Dr. Ronald Gordon of the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York — “Asbestos in commercial cosmetic talcum powder as a cause of mesothelioma in women”.
