UPDATE: Canadian Lawyers file AndroGel Class Action Lawsuit
July 25, 2014 — Attorneys in Canada have filed an AndroGel class action against AbbVie, seeking recovery on behalf of Canadians who purchased testosterone products. Click here to read more.
What is AndroGel?
AndroGel (testosterone gel) is a colorless topical gel that is manufactured by AbbVie, Inc., formerly part of Abbott Laboratories. It is approved to treat hypogonadism (low testosterone), and it has been prescribed to millions of men.
AndroGel Safety Concerns
In January 2014, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began investigating two studies linking testosterone replacement therapy to an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death. According to a Safety Communication, one study linked testosterone to a doubled risk of heart attack for men over 65, and a tripled increased risk for younger men with heart disease.
What is the problem with class actions?
The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not pursuing an AndroGel class action. Instead, our trial lawyers file individual lawsuits and provide personal legal representation to help our clients maximize their individual financial recovery.
We are evaluating lawsuits involving AndroGel side effects, such as:
- Blood clots
- Heart attack
- Pulmonary embolism
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Abnormal heart rhythm
- Organ damage
- And other serious side effects
About Class Actions
When most people think about nationwide litigation, a class action is often the first thing that comes to mind. This type of lawsuit is particularly useful when a large number of people need to file essentially the same lawsuit — especially when each person is seeking compensation that is less than the cost of filing an individual lawsuit. The success or failure of the class action depends on the “class representative,” and any compensation awarded is typically shared among all the members.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to an AndroGel Class Action
Class actions offer a number of advantages, but they can be detrimental to individuals who are severely injured by a defective drug. Members might be forced to accept high attorneys’ fees and a “low-ball settlement.” Our lawyers are concerned because AndroGel is associated with severe side effects — blood clots, heart attack, stroke, and death. We believe every man who was injured deserves the opportunity to present his case in a court of law.
Instead of an AndroGel class action, our lawyers advocate for each of our clients through the filing of individual lawsuits. We always evaluate cases for free. In most cases, we provide legal representation on contingency-fee. This means you pay nothing up-front, and our lawyers are paid a percentage of the financial recovery achieved on your behalf.
